In honor of the 40th Anniversary of Women's Way, on May 11, 2017 Penn President Amy Gutmann is receiving Powerful Voices Lucretia Mott Award.  The Awards celebrate women trailblazers and change makers in the region and around the country.

Wendell Pritchett has been named the 30th provost of the University of Pennsylvania. The announcement was made today by Penn President Amy Gutmann.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences today announced the election of 228 new members. They include some of the world’s most accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists, as well as civic, business, and philanthropic leaders.  Penn faculty members Pam Grossman, Beverly Davidson, Samuel Freeman, and alumnus John Legend were among the new members.

Joann Mitchell has been named Senior Vice President for Institutional Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer, Penn President Amy Gutmann announced last Wednesday. The president noted that this appointment recognizes “not only Joann’s exemplary service to Penn and her distinguished leadership across a broad range of domains, but also our elevation and extension of Joann’s campus-wide leadership role in making Penn a preeminent leader in diversity and inclusion.”

A group of nearly 100 University of Pennsylvania faculty, students and staff gathered together for the “Implicit Bias Teach-In,” an event organized as a “safe space” to have a conversation about what can be an uncomfortable topic: biases.

The Faculty Inclusion Report has been released.  In it, we report on the progress under the Action Plan for Faculty Diversity and Excellence and lay out a path forward for the next five years.  As we take account of accomplishments, we also look forward to a more inclusive and innovative Penn of tomorrow. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion—in a vibrant educational community that protects open expression and fosters mutual respect among wide-ranging perspectives—has never been stronger or more central to the mission of our University, higher education, our society, and the world.

On March 17, the 30th Annual Women of Color at Penn Day luncheon held at the Inn at Penn kicked off the beginning of a year-long celebration of WOCAP. Hundreds of members and supporters were in attendance.

A new project focusing on intersecting social identities and systems has put Penn's School of Social Policy & Practice (SP2) researchers at the helm of a cutting-edge hub that can significantly change the lives of the LGBTQ community and beyond.

Risa Lavizzo-Mourey has been named the University of Pennsylvania’s 19th Penn Integrates Knowledge University Professor, effective Jan. 1, 2018.
